Saturday night lobster 11/04/06
On Friday night we received a call from my brother. He was bored and sitting alone at home while his wife Carola and daughter Sofia visit the family in Chile. He will be joining them later this week, but for now he wanted to get out of the house. A little lonely? I can't blame him... I remember the days that Hiroe was away in England and I really didn't feel like hanging out alone at our place. That's when I'd head over to Jim and Carola's for dinner.
Anyway, Jim wanted to cook lobster on Saturday night. As I've never done that before, and since it sounded like an adventure, we agreed.
On Saturday night we headed over to Coastal Seafood in St. Paul. They had a tank of live lobsters that were all about 1-1/2 pounds. We brought three of them home and then all looked at each other trying to decide what to do next.
That's when Jim decided to ask for some help from everyone's old friend, Google. There he found a recommendation to steam them rather than boil them. A little water and salt at the bottom of the steamer, and we were ready to add the main ingredient.
Jim had a little trouble getting a hold of them. He tried BBQ tongs, but finally had to use his hands.
Hiroe wanted to try as well. She was pretty fearless...
18 minutes of steaming later and we were ready to check on them. Another 3 minutes and we decided it was time to eat.
They turned out fabulous... steamed lobsters is highly recommended.
