old country buffet 9/1/06
Spent the evening with yokko, mom, and the kids tonight. They wanted to see the river since it's only 1/2 block from our house. So we sent walking. There was some "off-road" travel involved. And I never could find a good view of the river. I guess it's a good thing since Minneapolis believes in a natural shoreline for the river. When you go down to the river edge it almost feels like you're out in nature somewhere. Except for the high-rise apartment building on the St. Paul side. And the bridges. And the barges. And the U of M crew team. But other than that... it's a mini-wilderness vacation at the rivers edge.
From here we all went out to eat. We were headed to the local malt shop. Seemed like a good destination for the kids. But en route, Hiroe requested Old Country Buffet. Huh? Don't they want to have some good food and have a nice dining experience. Well, off we went. I was so emabrassed. But in the end, I heard over and over from them that they enjoyed it. Really. I think it was a mix of being able to (kind of) satisfy everyone and show them some of the quirky things we do here in the states. But I don't plan on having business dinners there anytime soon.
